Most website projects are delayed not by design but by starting unprepared: the texts aren't ready, the photos can't be found, it's unclear who approves what. If you fill in this list before starting, your website will be ready faster and in better quality.
1. Write the website's main goal in one sentence
"Customers call from the website", "they place online orders", "the site builds trust in the company" - there should be one goal. Every design decision will serve that sentence.
2. Describe your customer
Who are they, how old are they, where do they open the website from (phone, computer), what question are they coming with? One or two sentences are enough.
3. Pick 3 websites you like and dislike
They can be competitors or from a completely different field. Briefly note what you like (color, structure, simplicity) - it tells a designer more than words.
4. List the pages
Home, About, Services, Projects, Contact... What should each page contain? A simple list lets you calculate the price and timeline accurately.
5. Prepare the texts
A short text about the company, service descriptions, frequently asked questions. They don't have to be perfect - even a rough draft speeds things up a lot. If the texts aren't ready, most projects stall exactly at this stage.
6. Gather the photos
Office, team, product and project photos. Real photos always build more trust than stock images. Even if shot on a phone, they should be in good light and high quality.
7. Send your brand materials
The logo's vector file (SVG, PDF), color codes, fonts. If you don't have a brand identity, consider creating it before or together with the website - otherwise the site will have to be changed later.
8. Domain and hosting details
If you already own a domain, have the login details for its control panel ready. If not, write down 2-3 name options you'd like.
9. Note the features you need
Contact form, WhatsApp button, multiple languages, blog, online ordering, admin panel... A feature added later always costs more than one planned from the start.
10. Who will approve?
Decide in advance who will approve the design and texts. A one-person decision makes for the fastest project. Five people's opinions can stretch the timeline several times over.
